A late Victorian engraved silver pill box, dating from 1900, sits ready for display. The silver circular box features hand-engraved foliage and scroll patterns surrounding an unengraved circular centre, notch edging to the lid and base, and clear, readable hallmarks with a matching part mark inside the lid. The object measures 1 cm high, 3 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Positioned on a bedside table, the small container holds pills or keepsakes within arm's reach. The lid lifts to reveal internal gilding with light staining, presenting a practical and collectable accessory for daily use or display in a home.

During the Victorian period, small silver containers were produced to carry pills, lozenges, or solid perfumes, featuring hand engraving and decorative scrollwork typical of late 19th-century metalworking.

These items were predominantly made from sterling or solid silver, crafted with fitted lids and decorated using hand engraving, chasing, or bright-cut pattern work.

Authentic pieces carry official hallmark stamps indicating silver purity, makers marks, assay office symbols, and date letters corresponding to the late 19th century.

Small silver boxes can be placed on bedside tables, dressing tables, or arranged atop books on a desk surface to add a metallic focal point.

Maintain silver surfaces by wiping gently with a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners or prolonged immersion in water.
