Antique Ushak Carpet

Description

Woven in the late 19th Century in Anatolia, western Turkey, these exquisite hand-woven Ushak carpets have been produced since the start of the Ottoman period (1300-1922).  The mid to late 19th century examples such as this became more open and decorative in design and were commissioned more for the Western market in the US and Europe and have since rivalled the look of the famous Ziegler carpets from Persia.

In near perfect original condition, this is one of the best antique Ushak carpets we have seen in over 30 years!  With a dense, soft wool pile all over, no areas of wear or restoration, it is as near to being in perfect condition as can be! With the rarer pale green background and muted dusky pink border, one of the best colour combinations for these antique Turkish carpets.

Farnham Antique Carpets are specialists in antique decorative carpets, rugs and runners. Varying from antique tribal rugs woven in the Caucasus to classical Persian carpets dating from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century.

As members of the BADA - The British Antique Dealers Association and LAPADA - The Association of Art & Antique Dealers we adhere to strict guide lines as affiliated members and pride ourselves on maintaining its high standards. We exhibit at the BADA fair in Chelsea, London every March and the LAPADA Fair in Mayfair, London every September.
