Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique Ushak carpet from 1920 displays a Gavin Morton inspired field design woven in soft natural tones on a pale sandy ground, flanked by rose madder borders. The visible decoration includes intricate floral motifs in shades of blue, pink, and green arranged in a structured geometric trellis pattern across the central field. Signs of age and wear include an even low pile that is slightly low in one or two local areas, along with one or two small repairs and newly secured ends and sides. The carpet measures 526 cm high, 366 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. It suits placement as a grand floor covering in a spacious living room, dining room, or reception hall.

FAQs

Originating from the town of Usak in Western Anatolia, Ushak carpets are historical Ottoman textiles recognised for their larger-scale floral designs, soft colour palettes, and relaxed knotting style.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile secured onto a wool or cotton foundation, employing natural vegetable dyes to achieve characteristic muted tones.

Authentic pieces feature Turkish double knotting (Ghiordes), a relatively low knot count per square inch, soft pastel or earth-toned ground colours, and large-scale palmette or medallion motifs.

The understated colour scheme of an Ushak carpet works as a soft neutral anchor, effortlessly anchoring modern minimalist furniture or blending with classic English Country House decor.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush bar, rotate the carpet annually to distribute foot traffic evenly, and seek specialist hand-cleaning for stain removal.
