Edwardian silver scent bottles from the early 20th century typically combine polished hallmarked sterling silver mounts with decorative glass bodies, often reflecting popular aesthetic trends of the period such as tortoiseshell or art nouveau glass techniques.

Tortoiseshell glass was produced by layering varied tones of amber, brown, and dark glass pigments into blown vessel forms, creating a variegated mottled effect reminiscent of natural tortoiseshell before fitting silver collars.

Authentic Edwardian pieces feature official British silver hallmarks stamped onto the silver collar or mount, including a town mark, fineness mark, date letter, and makers mark, alongside period glass manufacturing characteristics.

An antique scent bottle can be displayed on a vanity tray, styled atop a bedroom dresser, or placed on a bookshelf alongside leather-bound books to add historic texture to a room.

Clean the glass body using a soft damp cloth and mild liquid soap, ensuring water does not enter the silver joins. Use a silver polishing cloth specifically for the metal components to remove tarnish without abrasive compounds.
