A Victorian novelty silver candle snuffer, dating to 1897 and made in London by Harry Brasted, follows the style of a traditional hunting horn. The piece is fashioned from solid silver with a bright reflective finish, featuring a long tapered stem that expands into a wide flared bell end at the base and a narrow mouthpiece at the tip, alongside clear stamped hallmarks near the lower terminal. Minor indentations appear near the trumpet end, showing signs of age and regular use. Measuring 30.5 cm high, 3 cm wide, and 3 cm deep, this item serves as both a practical tool for extinguishing candles and a decorative collectible. It sits comfortably displayed on a mantelpiece in a traditional living room, study, or hallway within a home styled with Highland hunting lodge decor.

A novelty silver candle snuffer is a functional nineteenth-century tableware tool designed to extinguish a lit candle flame, fashioned in a decorative form such as a hunting horn or trumpet.

Victorian candle snuffers were predominantly constructed from solid sterling silver or silver plate, featuring stamped British hallmarks to indicate material purity, origin, and year of manufacture.

Authentic pieces typically display clear British assay hallmarks, distinct hand-finished joinery, and specific makers marks struck directly onto the body or collar of the item.

Display the snuffer on a mantelpiece, marble sideboard, or dining table tray alongside contemporary candles to serve as a functional decorative accent.

Clean silver gently with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised non-abrasive silver polish, storing the item in a dry environment to prevent rapid oxidisation.
