This Norwegian sterling silver and multicolour guilloche enamel brooch dates from the 1960s and originates from the workshop of Kurt Andreas Rasmussen in Oslo. Modelled in the form of an artist's palette, the piece possesses an asymmetrical outline with a dark oxidised silver finish framing a black enamel background. Five distinct enamel paint swatches in red, blue, green, yellow and white populate the surface, representing the colours of an artist palette motif. The silver is lightly oxidised to highlight the pattern, and the enamel remains undamaged. Measuring 5cm x 4cm, the brooch offers a compact scale suitable for everyday wear on a lapel, collar, scarf or hat in a modern wardrobe. Jewellery of this mid-century modern design brings a colourful artistic accent to contemporary outfits, functioning as a wearable piece of Scandinavian design history.

Mid-century Scandinavian enamel jewellery gained international prominence during the 1950s and 1960s, particularly through Norwegian silversmiths who combined traditional guilloche and champleve techniques with modernist and novelty forms.

These pieces are typically constructed from high-grade sterling silver or silver gilt (vermeil), combined with vitreous glass enamel applied in distinct cells or engine-turned patterns.

Authentic items feature makers marks, national purity stamps such as 925S or 830S, and clear, undamaged enamel work with well-defined metal borders.

Vintage enamel brooches can be worn pinned to coat lapels, heavy knitwear, scarves, or tailored blazers to add a focal point of colour and geometric structure.

Clean silver enamel gently with a soft polishing cloth, avoiding liquid chemical silver dips or ultrasonic cleaners which can crack enamel or dissolve protective patinas.
