Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian standard lamp dates from the 1930 period and works as a floor-standing lighting piece for an empty corner in an English country house interior. The structure uses dark brown mahogany timber with visible grain alongside brass hardware at the upper fitting and a weighted circular moulded base resting on the floor. Detailed craftsmanship appears in the turned mouldings, the fluted central column, and the bulb holder at the top, accompanied by a presentation plaque fixed to the base. Practical measurements place the height at 182 cm to the top of the shade, 160 cm to the bulb holder, and a base diameter of 38 cm. Position this lamp in a living room, hallway, or study to supply warm illumination next to a seating area or reading chair. The traditional design complements period properties and classic interior schemes, pairing easily with wooden furniture and neutral upholstery. Maintenance involves standard dusting of the dark timber and brass components, while electrical installation requires a compatible bulb and standard wall socket connection.

FAQs

A standard lamp is a tall, free-standing floor luminaire introduced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to provide elevated task and ambient lighting in residential living spaces.

Period standard lamps were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, often paired with brass or copper bulb holders and weighted bases for balance.

Authentic Edwardian examples feature hand-turned or fluted wood columns, original brass bayonet light fittings, stepped or moulded circular bases, and natural wear to the timber varnish.

Place the lamp alongside a contemporary armchair or sofa to create a reading corner, pairing dark timber with neutral upholstery and modern fabrics for tonal contrast.

Dust the timber shaft regularly with a soft cloth and apply clear beeswax polish periodically along the grain; ensure modern electrical rewiring is conducted by a certified electrician.
