Antique 0.20ct Sapphire and 0.32ct Diamond 18ct Yellow Gold Dress Ring Circa 1910

1900 - 1920
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A fine and impressive antique 0.20 carat blue sapphire and 0.32 carat diamond, 18 carat yellow gold and silver set dress ring; part of our diverse antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections.

This fine and impressive antique sapphire and diamond dress ring has been crafted in 18ct yellow gold with a silver setting.

The pierced decorated, circular setting is ornamented with a central 18ct yellow gold collet set 0.20ct square step cut sapphire; this openwork geometric plaque design bridges late Victorian motifs and early Art Deco design elements.

The feature gemstone is encircled with a silver set halo style setting, embellished with four larger collet set Dutch cut diamonds to the cardinal points and conjoined with four pairs of slightly smaller pavé set Dutch cut diamonds*.

The subtly elevated, tapering ring shoulder blend seamlessly with the plain 18ct yellow gold ring shank.

This antique dress ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 carat gold and silver.

The ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.

The sapphire and diamond dress ring combines rich colour with refined brilliance in an elegant antique design. Crafted in 18ct yellow gold, the warm setting complements the sapphire and provides contrast to the surrounding diamonds. Its early 20th-century character makes it particularly suited to milestone birthdays, anniversaries, or as a distinctive heirloom piece.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Condition

This antique sapphire and diamond dress ring is excellent quality, set with an impressive sapphire displaying fine colour and brilliance.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of antique diamond jewellery.

This Edwardian dress ring dates to circa 1910 and takes the form of an 18ct yellow gold and silver-set jewel. The composition centres on a square step cut blue sapphire held in an 18ct yellow gold collet setting. A pierced, circular openwork halo surrounds the central stone, embellished with Dutch cut diamonds in silver settings. The tapering yellow gold shoulders merge into a plain shank. Four larger diamonds sit at the cardinal points of the frame, paired with smaller pavé set stones between them. The metal finishes contrast warm yellow gold with silvery tones. In practical terms, the ring has a diameter of 1.30 cm and a setting height of 3.10 mm, weighing 2.94 grams with a UK size S and USA size 9 1/8. It functions as a dress ring suitable for everyday wear or special occasions on the hand. The piece brings early 20th-century geometric design to contemporary collections, worn on the finger as an individual statement item or paired with other fine jewellery.

Edwardian jewellery, spanning roughly from 1901 to 1915, is characterised by light, lace-like metalwork, geometric symmetry, and the prominent use of platinum alongside gold. Design motifs often feature garlands, bows, square bezels, and openwork halo mountings framing natural gemstones.

Pieces from this period typically feature 18ct yellow gold shanks paired with platinum or silver settings to enhance white diamonds. Natural sapphires, commonly in square, round, or oval cuts, were frequently combined with rose-cut or single-cut accent diamonds.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut gemstones, subtle mill grain edging, open-backed settings to allow light entry, and historic hallmarking on the band. The metalwork often shows precise hand fabrication rather than modern casting uniformities.

An antique dress ring serves as a subtle accent piece for contemporary tailored tailoring or casual evening wear. It can be worn individually on the right hand as a standalone statement ring or paired with minimalist gold bands.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild liquid soap, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding ultrasonic cleaners which may dislodge delicate settings. Store the item separately in a soft fabric pouch to prevent diamonds from scratching adjacent metals or stones.
