Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian gentleman's library bookmark takes the form of a miniature trowel. Dating from 1880, the piece is fashioned from sterling silver with bluey-grey agate insets and clear hallmark stamps on the blade. It comes complete with a red Morocco leather case bearing the Harrods retailer's marks, lined with white satin and dark red velvet inside. The dimensions are 0.5 cm high, 8.5 cm wide, and 2 cm deep. Suitable for an office desk or study, this bookmark rests neatly between the pages of a favourite volume when not in use. It functions as a decorative accessory for keeping one's place in large reference books or literature. The combination of engraved silver and inlaid hardstone offers a tactile element to daily reading routines while adding period character to a home library setup.

Victorian silver trowel bookmarks are functional desk novelties produced during the late nineteenth century, designed in the miniature shape of a masons trowel to mark pages in books.

These items were predominantly constructed from sterling silver and frequently features inlaid natural gemstones, such as Scottish agate or jasper, with presentation cases made of wood, leather, and silk.

Authentic pieces carry official British assay hallmarks stamped directly into the metal, indicating the silver purity mark, the town mark, the date letter, and the makers initials.

They are typically styled open in their original fitted presentation cases on executive office desks, library shelving, or glass display tables alongside antique books.

Silver should be lightly polished using a soft, non-abrasive silver cloth while avoiding harsh chemicals that can discolour or damage embedded agate settings and velvet linings.
