Pair of Antique Swedish Satin Birch Biedermeier Stools

19th century
Description

A stunning pair of antique Swedish satin birch Biedermeier stools. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from around the 1880-1900 period.

They are of outstanding quality, with a fine and elegant design. They sit on beautifully shaped and slender sabre shaped legs, with lovely turned handles and the top edges. They would be perfect as window seats, at the end of a bed or in various settings around the home.

We have had them stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, and fully re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent for their age.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Biedermeier furniture emerged in the early 19th century, combining Neoclassical forms with light-coloured local timbers such as satin birch. It focuses on functional elegance, architectural silhouettes, and warm wood veneer finishes.

These stools typically feature blonde timber veneers, such as satin birch or fruitwood, laid over solid softwood frames. Upholstery traditionally incorporates horsehair padding covered in neutral woven fabrics, linen, or silk.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut book-matched veneers, traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, and natural age-related patina on the timber finish. Original upholstery webbing or hand-forged tacks beneath the frame also indicate period origin.

Position a pair at the foot of a bed or alongside a console table to provide functional seating and warm timber tones. The clean geometric lines bridge classical and contemporary minimalist aesthetics.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to preserve the luster. Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent drying or veneer movement.
