Edwardian 9ct Gold Peridot Murrle Bennett Pendant

1900 - 1920
Description

Beautiful Edwardian 9ct Gold Peridot Murrle Bennett Pendant. This is a pretty pendant which was made by Murrle Bennett with a wonderful scrolling design set in the centre with a Peridot of good colour measuring 9mm x 7mm. At the bottom of the pendant is a small baroque pearl. The pendant is hallmarked for 9ct and stamped with the MB & Co, the Murrle Bennet stamp and dates to the Edwardian Era. The pendant measures 42mm x 17mm and I have photographed it by a coin and the hand to get a sense of scale. Total weight 1.7g

Photographs are ZOOMED with x5 magnification. SO Please Check Sizes And Weights before purchasing as JEWELLERY IMAGES ARE ENLARGED!! Dark areas are reflections on the gold.

Please also note that Antique and Vintage items will show some signs of wear commensurate with age.

Returns are accepted however buyer must pay return postage.

Finally - by purchasing a Used /Vintage/ Antique ring you are recycling a beautiful piece of jewellery and gemstone. In buying a ring which has been in circulation for this long is the most environmentally ethical way to purchase jewellery. Purchasing antique jewellery allows you to both support smaller local businesses and but encouraging the reuse of the vast amount of timeless jewels that are already in circulation and reduces the demand for further stripping of our planets resources.

This Edwardian pendant dates to 1900 during the Art Nouveau period and is made from 9ct gold. The openwork frame displays characteristic whiplash curves, scrolling wirework, and an upper bail loop. Set centrally in a bezel mount is an oval green peridot, complemented by a suspended baroque pearl drop at the base. The polished gold shows warm metallic tones contrasted against the vibrant green gemstone and pale pearl. Maker's marks for MB and Co are stamped alongside standard gold hallmarks. The pendant measures 4.2 cm by 1.7 cm in size. It is worn suspended from a chain around the neck as a decorative jewellery item for daily wear or special occasions.

Art Nouveau and Edwardian jewellery from the early 20th century typically features organic, flowing whiplash curves, openwork gold framing, and naturalistic gemstones such as peridots and pearls.

Crafters frequently utilised 9ct or 15ct gold, silver, and platinum alongside natural coloured gemstones like peridot, amethyst, and garnets, often accented with seed pearls.

Authentic Murrle Bennett pieces often bear the distinct MBCo or MB&Co mark, alongside gold purity stamps such as 9ct, accompanied by signature sinuous wirework and bezel-set gemstones.

Antique pendants can be worn on modern delicate gold trace chains or displayed beneath glass cloches and in framed velvet jewellery trays as part of a dressing table vignette.

Clean gently using lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemical solutions that could damage organic pearls or softer gemstones.
