6.45ct Aquamarine and 0.48ct Diamond, Platinum Cocktail Ring - Antique Circa 1920

1900 - 1920
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A stunning, fine and impressive, rare and unusual 6.45 carat aquamarine and 0.48 carat diamond, platinum cocktail ring; part of our diverse collection of gemstone dress rings.

This stunning, fine and impressive antique 1920s aquamarine ring has been crafted in platinum.

The pierced decorated setting displays two pear faceted cut aquamarines totalling 6.45cts, collet set in opposing directions.

The aquamarines are segmented with seven graduating pavé set Old European cut diamonds, totalling 0.48ct.

The finely crafted and detailed, pierced decorated shoulders integrate with the setting and meld seamlessly with the plain ring shank.

This antique aquamarine ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as platinum.

This platinum aquamarine ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.

This 1920s pear cut aquamarine cocktail ring is a striking gift. As the birthstone for March, aquamarine also makes this ring a particularly thoughtful choice for a March birthday, as well as milestone anniversaries, engagements, retirement celebrations or significant personal achievements.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone in this Art Deco aquamarine platinum ring.

Condition

This impressive antique dress ring is excellent quality, set with stunning aquamarines displaying fine colour, brilliance and presence.

The impressive diamonds display a fine white colour and brilliance; although the diamonds are clarity graded at P1, they show no unsightly black inclusions.

The ring is an excellent gauge of platinum and is in excellent condition.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of diamond jewellery.

This Art Deco cocktail ring dates from the 1920 period and consists of a platinum mount holding two pear-cut light blue aquamarines positioned in opposing directions alongside seven graduating round diamonds set in a central row. Millegrain borders edge the geometric setting, which integrates with pierced decorated shoulders and connects to a plain ring shank in a silver colour palette. The setting measures 2.13cm in length by 1.64cm in width, with a height of 5.49mm, and corresponds to a UK size P 1/2 or USA size 7 3/4. Buyers wear this platinum ring on the hand as a dress ring or cocktail ring for formal occasions, social gatherings, milestones, anniversaries, and celebratory events. The structure sits on the finger with a low profile while displaying the contrasting blue stones and white diamonds arranged in a diagonal pattern.

Cocktail rings emerged during the 1920s Prohibition era in America, worn at illicit gatherings as a symbol of independence and status. Characterised by bold geometric shapes, large centre gemstones, and intricate platinum metalwork, these rings became a defining jewellery style of the Art Deco period.

Art Deco cocktail rings were predominantly crafted in platinum or white gold to showcase the icy brilliance of diamonds and vibrant coloured gemstones such as aquamarines, sapphires, emeralds, and rubies. Settings frequently featured fine millegrain edging and geometric filigree work.

Authentic pieces from the 1920s typically feature platinum or white gold mounts with delicate hand-applied millegrain borders, geometric pierced work, and era-specific gemstone cuts such as pear, marquise, or step cuts. Period hallmarks and evidence of hand-carved setting details further confirm authenticity.

A statement cocktail ring is designed to be worn on the right hand as a standalone focal piece. It pairs seamlessly with formal eveningwear or adds a sophisticated contrast when worn alongside minimalist contemporary tailoring.

Clean aquamarine and platinum jewellery using lukewarm water, mild liquid soap, and a soft-bristled brush to gently remove accumulated oil and dust. Store the piece separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent harder gemstones or metals from scratching the surface.
