Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English Art Deco modernist desk originates from c1930 and follows a twin-pedestal form in light to mid tone golden brown oak. The construction features a generous top, a D-shaped rounded end on the right side, a central drawer fitted with a semi-circular chrome pull, a vertical rectangular chrome bar handle on the left cabinet door, and a matching vertical handle on the curved right door. A keyhole sits below each of the two door handles, and the desk rests on a plinth base. Measuring 76.5 cm high, 128 cm wide, and 78 cm deep, the compact structure offers storage on both sides. Designed to sit free-standing in the middle of a room rather than against a wall, the piece provides a dedicated workspace for a home office, study, or living area. The double-sided layout accommodates laptops and desktop computers while maintaining ample surface space and storage capacity within the pedestal cupboards.

FAQs

Art Deco D-end desks from the 1930s feature geometric shapes combined with streamlined, curved ends known as D-ends. Influenced by modernism, these pieces replace ornate carving with flat wood veneers, clean architectural lines, and minimalist metal hardware.

1930s English desks were frequently built using cut oak, walnut, or mahogany veneers over solid timber frames. Construction often included solid wood drawer linings, flush panel cupboard doors, and handles cast in chrome, nickel, or Bakelite.

Authentic 1930s Art Deco desks often display original chrome or nickel hardware, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and a solid plinth base rather than traditional bracket feet. Look for age-appropriate surface patination and period locks.

An Art Deco desk functions as a anchor piece in a contemporary study or home office. Position the desk centrally to show off its geometric curves, pairing it with modern leather seating and a minimalist metallic task lamp.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly using a clean, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to maintain the moisture barrier. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber warping or veneer separation.
