Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian oil lamps emerged during the nineteenth century following the widespread availability of paraffin and kerosene. Designed for domestic lighting prior to electrification, these lamps combined utilitarian burner mechanisms with elaborate decorative bases, glass reservoirs, and etched shades.

These lighting fixtures were constructed using cast or stamped brass, hand-blown or pressed glass, ceramic bases, and iron weights inside the foot. The fonts were often made from coloured or enamelled glass, while shades featured frosted or acid-etched pattern glass.

Authentic pieces generally feature original brass burner mechanisms, such as Duplex double wicks, stamped maker marks on the winder buttons, period plaster lining inside the column junction, and natural surface patination on brass elements.

A Victorian oil lamp functions as a focal decorative object when placed on a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece. Pairing the item with clean-lined surfaces or muted colour palettes allows the intricate glasswork and metallic patination to stand out.

Glass components should be cleaned using warm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that may strip enamelled decoration. Brass elements should be gently dusted with a soft cloth to preserve the historical patina rather than polished with abrasive compounds.
