Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver christening cups originated as symbolic gifts presented at baptisms during the Tudor era, representing prosperity and good fortune for the infant. By the 18th and 19th centuries, standard forms such as small mugs with strapwork or scroll decoration became traditional commemorative items.

These vessels are predominantly raised or spun from sterling silver, an alloy containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper for structural durability. The interior is frequently finished with a thin layer of gold wash or vermeil to prevent liquid tarnishing and corrosion.

Authentic British sterling silver features official assay marks stamped into the metal, typically near the rim or handle. These marks include a makers mark, a purity mark such as the lion passant, a town mark indicating the assay office, and a date letter.

Small silver hollowware can be styled as functional desktop brush holders, placed alongside books on a shelf, or integrated into a curated display on a sideboard tray. The polished metallic finish creates a reflective contrast against wooden or painted surfaces.

Clean the exterior polished silver using a soft cotton cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh rubbing over raised details. The inner gilded surface should only be wiped gently with warm water and mild soap, as abrasive polishes can wear away the thin gold layer.
