Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century French bombe bureau is characterised by its sinuous, outward-curving sides and front, typical of the Rococo and Louis XV design eras. These pieces feature a sloped fall-front writing surface concealing internal drawers and pigeonholes above lower storage drawers.

Cabinetmakers utilised fine hardwoods such as walnut, kingwood, or tulipwood to compose geometric veneer patterns known as parquetry. Hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak secondary timbers, and cast brass fittings are standard indications of traditional period construction.

Authentic 18th-century furniture displays evidence of hand-tooling, such as hand-sawn veneers, pit-saw marks on unfinished reverse panels, and slight irregularities in dovetail joints. Look for original cast brass hardware with hand-cut threads and uneven natural patination across the timber.

Position a parquetry bureau as a focal piece within a study, hallway, or living space. Juxtaposing geometric timber veneers against muted wall shades, streamlined modern lighting, or contemporary artwork highlights the historical silhouette of the desk.

Maintain consistent indoor humidity levels to prevent delicate timber veneers from lifting or cracking. Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth, apply clear beeswax sparingly once per year, and ensure placement away from radiators or direct sunlight.
