Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian paste jewellery features hand-cut, high-lead glass stones crafted to simulate diamonds and precious gemstones. Originating in the 18th century and continuing through the Victorian era, paste stones were meticulously cut and often set into silver mounts with foiled backings to maximize brilliance.

These necklaces were typically constructed using faceted leaded glass stones held within silver, silver-gilt, or silver-topped base metal settings. Design details frequently incorporated natural seed or baroque pearls, along with foil backings behind the stones to enhance light reflection.

Authentic period paste jewellery typically features hand-cut facets with slight irregularities, closed collet settings, and occasionally a small black dot painted onto the culet to mimic a diamonds depth. Oxidation or darkening on the silver mounting and natural wear on the glass edges are also key indicators of age.

Victorian paste necklaces offer subtle sparkle that integrates easily into contemporary fashion when layered with modern fine gold or silver chains. The understated luster of paste pairs exceptionally well with tailored blazers, silk blouses, or understated evening attire.

Paste jewellery should never be submerged in liquid or cleaned with harsh chemicals, as water can penetrate closed settings and ruin delicate foil backings or damage organic pearls. Wipe the piece gently using a clean, dry microfibre cloth and store it in a dry, shaded jewel box.
