Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of vintage Birks Regency plate glass hurricane lamps dates from circa 1950 and follows a Regency style. The set consists of silver-plated candlesticks fitted with clear glass hurricane shades, displaying a silver finish. Each stand incorporates a broad, weighted foot with a fluted gadroon-style border, a pierced gallery collar below the shade, and a turned stem, while the glass shades are lightly engraved with a flowing vine and grape pattern. Light surface wear appears on the silver plate, and the glass remains free of chips and cracks. Measuring 25.5 cm high, 12.5 cm wide, and 12.5 cm deep, the lamps function as a dining table centre or a composed focal point for dinners, celebrations, and winter evenings at home, and the shades can be removed to convert the stands into low candlesticks.

FAQs

A convertible hurricane lamp features a candlestick base paired with a removable glass shade, allowing the fixture to function either as a tall storm-shielded candle lamp or as a standard candlestick.

These lighting fixtures typically combine electroplated metal bases with clear blown or etched glass shades designed to protect the candle flame from draughts.

Authentic pieces generally feature maker stamps or hallmarks on the underside of the base, such as Birks Regency Plate, alongside quality electroplating and characteristic gadrooned or beaded metalwork motifs.

Positioned as a symmetrical pair on a dining table centre, sideboard top, or fireplace mantelpiece, they add classic vertical structure and soft illumination to contemporary living spaces.

Wash the glass shades separately in warm soapy water, and polish the silver-plated metal bases gently using a soft microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive scrubbers.
