Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Decanter labels, originally known as bottle tickets, were introduced in Britain during the eighteenth century to identify the contents of opaque glass decanters and bottles. During the George III era, silversmiths began crafting ornate silver labels featuring chased motifs, mythological figures, and leaf ornamentation.

Georgian bottle tickets were crafted from sterling silver using casting, die-stamping, and hand-chasing techniques. The engraved liquor name was flanked by decorative borders, and silversmiths attached a silver trace chain to suspend the ticket around a decanter neck.

Authentic pieces feature official British hallmarks struck into the silver, including the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark, date letter, makers mark, and the monarchs duty mark. The weight, hand-chased details, and period-appropriate lettering styles further confirm authenticity.

A silver decanter label is typically styled by hanging it around the neck of a crystal decanter displayed on a sideboard top, bar cart, or dining table tray, adding historical interest to contemporary beverage displays.

Sterling silver labels should be cleaned gently using a soft cotton cloth and a specialized non-abrasive silver polish. Direct immersion in harsh chemical silver dips should be avoided to preserve the natural oxidisation within the chased relief.
