We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Georgian period, silver vinaigrettes were small pocket-sized containers used to hold a sponge soaked in aromatic oils or vinegar. They were carried to mask foul public odours and to prevent faintness, featuring a hinged perforated inner grille to contain the liquid while allowing fragrance to escape.

Georgian vinaigrettes were crafted from sterling silver, often featuring a gilded interior (silver-gilt) to protect the metal from corrosion caused by acidic vinegar. Decoration involved hand-engraving, wrigglework, chased borders, and intricately pierced or cast inner grilles.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarks stamped on the interior or exterior walls, including the sovereigns head duty mark, leopards head for London, date letter, and makers mark. The presence of a gilded interior and hand-pierced grille is also typical of period construction.

These compact silver objects are suitable for display on desk trays, glass-topped shadow boxes, or styled within curated shelves alongside historical books and curiosities.

Dust gently with a microfibre cloth and polish exterior silver surfaces using a specialised silver polishing cloth. Avoid abrasive creams on the interior gilding, as gold wash layer can wear away over time.
