Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian mahogany glazed bookcases were produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and are characterised by solid or veneered mahogany construction, glass-fronted doors, and structured architectural lines such as moulded cornices and plinth bases.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised Cuban or West Indian mahogany for outer surfaces, often employing flame or figured veneers for visual interest. Secondary woods such as pine, oak, or deal were used for drawer linings and back panels, paired with hand-cut glass panes and brass hardware.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, and original glass with subtle distortion or air bubbles. The timber usually exhibits a natural patina developed through decades of oxidation and polishing.

A low glazed cabinet can be styled alongside modern art and neutral wall finishes to create textural contrast. It serves effectively as a media unit, hallway display cabinet, or low library storage in modern residential spaces.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the wood grain to maintain the finish. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp environments to prevent wood movement, veneer cracking, or fading.
