Description

This sweet pendant features an antique heart encrusted with many paste stones that glint as they catch the light. It is modelled in silver.

Paste is a special type of hand-cut glass used since the 18th century to replicate Gemstones.

This fantastic pendant looks fabulous worn and would make a great addition to any collection.

This antique paste heart pendant remains in very good condition. The stones are all secure, with some showing slight discolouration from age and small surface grazes up close. The large sterling silver bail lets you wear it on a chain, and it looks fabulous when worn, sparkling immensely. It would make a superb addition to your antique jewellery collection.

Paste jewellery originated in the eighteenth century as high-lead content glass cut to emulate diamonds and precious gemstones. Crafters treated paste with the same level of artisan skill as precious gems, leading to widespread adoption throughout the Georgian and Victorian eras.

These pendants traditionally combine sterling silver or low-carat gold mounts with hand-facetted lead glass stones. Settings were frequently closed-back, sometimes incorporating metallic foils beneath the stones to enhance light refraction.
