A charming Edwardian amethyst and seed pearl necklace, beautifully fashioned in 9 carat gold and dating to around 1910.

Designed in the wonderfully delicate style associated with Edwardian jewellery, the necklace features a graceful articulated drop suspended from an integral fine trace-link chain. At the top sits a lustrous seed pearl within an elegant openwork trefoil-shaped gold motif, from which a slender shaped gold bar descends.

At the centre is a pretty cluster of four seed pearls, each delicately set within a beaded gold surround. A further tapering gold section leads to the principal gemstone: a rich purple oval-cut amethyst, bezel set within a softly rounded gold frame.

The combination of warm yellow gold, creamy seed pearls and vivid violet amethyst is particularly attractive, giving the necklace a refined and feminine appearance. Its long, elegant drop is very characteristic of jewellery from the Edwardian period and sits beautifully when worn.

The pendant is suspended from its original-style fine trace chain and is fitted with a traditional spring-ring clasp.
