Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Meiji period (18681912) in Japan was marked by exceptional metalworking techniques, as former sword artisan masters transitioned to creating decorative arts. Metalwork from this era frequently features intricate high-relief casting depicting natural scenes, birds, flora, and mythological motifs.

Meiji bronzes were crafted using lost-wax casting (cire perdue) techniques, enabling high precision in relief detailing. These pieces were subsequently hand-chiseled and finished with patinas ranging from deep dark brown to warm reddish hues.

Authentic Meiji bronzes exhibit heavy, high-density casting with crisp detail in the relief work and realistic naturalistic subjects. Look for historical patination wear consistent with age, artisan signatures or seals on the base, and joinery typical of late 19th-century Japanese craftsmanship.

Position the standard lamp in an empty corner or beside a armchair to provide layered ambient light and sculptural texture. Pair the dark patinated bronze tone with neutral linen upholstery or polished wood furniture to complement its surface detail.

Dust the bronze regularly with a dry, soft cloth or soft-bristled brush to clear dust from relief details. Avoid liquid polishes, abrasives, or chemical solvents that strip historical patina; microcrystalline wax can be applied sparingly to protect the surface finish.
