The Chelsea Bijouterie Ltd has dated this Cultured Pearl Diamond Necklace to the 1950s.
The cultured pearls measure approximately 8.8 mm, giving the necklace a wonderfully substantial appearance when worn. They have a lovely creamy silver colour with subtle rose overtones and an excellent lustre, catching the light beautifully. Each pearl is individually hand knotted in the traditional manner.
The real focal point is the striking barrel-shaped clasp, crafted in 9 carat yellow gold and set with four rows of brilliant cut diamonds. Fourteen diamonds, totalling approximately 0.20 carat, add a discreet but noticeable sparkle. The contrasting yellow gold detailing gives the clasp a distinctive mid-century appearance.
Rather than hiding the clasp at the back, this necklace looks especially elegant with it positioned to the side or even towards the front, turning the fastening into a decorative feature in its own right.
A classic and very wearable 1950s jewel, this is a particularly appealing necklace for someone looking for larger vintage pearls with a fine jewellery clasp.
