Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pedestal desk dates from 1850 in the Queen Anne style, constructed from burr walnut veneer with oak and finished in a warm brown colour. The piece includes a rectangular top above a central frieze drawer and four pedestal drawers, all fitted with small brass drop handles, moulded drawer surrounds, and raised bracket feet. The dimensions are 71 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Positioned in a study, library, or home office, the desk provides a compact workspace surface and storage for stationery and writing materials. It serves as a practical writing table suitable for smaller rooms, blending period character with functional daily use.

FAQs

A burr walnut pedestal desk is a compact writing table featuring two vertical pedestals containing drawers supporting a top surface, constructed using figured veneer cut from walnut tree burls.

Traditional pedestal desks are crafted with solid wood frames, hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and decorative exterior veneers secured with period brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces display natural timber oxidisation on unfinished surfaces, hand-cut dovetails within the drawers, authentic wear around the handles, and genuine figure variation in the grain.

Position the desk within an alcove or bedroom study corner, paired with a contemporary leather desk chair and a understated table lamp to highlight the figured timber grain.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax twice yearly along the grain, and place the piece clear of direct heat sources to preserve the veneer finish.
