Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kutchinsky was a prominent London jeweller celebrated throughout the 20th century for bold, expressive gold designs. During the 1960s, the house produced a renowned series of whimsical, highly detailed animal brooches characterised by heavy textured 18ct gold and vibrant gem settings.

1960s fine jewellery frequently featured high-carat yellow gold, particularly 18ct, sculpted with heavily textured finishes such as bark or fur effects. These pieces were often accented with precious gemstones including diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.

Authentic Kutchinsky creations typically feature clear maker marks (K&L or Kutchinsky) alongside full British hallmarks indicating the gold purity, assay office, and year of manufacture. The exceptional quality of the gold texturing and gem setting also distinguishes genuine examples.

A vintage gold brooch can be fastened to the lapel of a tailored blazer, attached to a silk scarf, or pinned onto a heavy knit sweater to add texture and focus. Modern styling often involves pairing tactile vintage pieces with contemporary minimalist silhouettes.

Maintain gold brooches by wiping them gently with a soft lint-free cloth and storing them separately to avoid scratches. For detailed gem-set pieces, use a soft brush with warm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that might compromise gemstone mounts or delicate solder joints.
