Exceptional Pair Of Queen Anne Period Solid Walnut Stools C.1700

Status: Reserved
Seller: Webberley Antiques
A wonderful and rare pair of solid walnut spiral carved stools with an exceptional colour and very attractive patina.

The tremendous skill required to turn multiple spiral legs and stretchers from solid posts of walnut without electricity or mechanised tools is a marvel.

The fact that they have survived over 300 years in such original and solid condition is a testament to the maker’s skill and knowledge of timber.

The stools are tenon and peg jointed throughout and all of the pegs are original.

The original horse hair seat pads have been retained with traditional webbing below and upholstered in House of Hackney

“Artemis” velvet fabric which retails at £160 per meter and is a beautifully vibrant flowers against a sage green ground.

This heavyweight fabric is finished with a tassel and tied braid and the original hand carved oak roundhead fixings with shaped oak spikes.

The seats are well padded and comfortable and the stools are robust and solid with a good weight...
