This 19th century French table lamp originates from circa 1890 and takes the form of a converted bottle-neck vase. The ceramic base carries a sage green celadon glaze with a glossy finish, rising from a round brass mount. Resting on top is a handmade cream box-pleat fabric shade that tapers outward toward the bottom. The lamp stands 61 cm high to the top of the shade, with the vase portion reaching 35 cm and a diameter of 15 cm. Suitable for interior placement today, this lamp functions effectively on a sideboard top in a living room, hallway or bedroom. The neutral cream and green palette coordinates with traditional or transitional interiors while providing functional lighting. The combination of glazed ceramic, fabric and polished brass provides a classic silhouette suited for domestic spaces.

FAQs

Celadon glazed ceramics, inspired by traditional Asian porcelain techniques, were widely crafted in late 19th-century France and frequently adapted into decorative table lamps.

These lamps generally feature a fired ceramic base finished in a pale green iron-rich glaze, frequently fitted on a brass or gilt metal mount with a fabric lampshade.

Authentic pieces often present age-related glaze crazing, period brass mounting hardware, and early electrical conversions near the base or stem.

The soft sage green tone complements neutral colour schemes, making it suitable for placement on a wooden sideboard, console table, or bedside cabinet.

Dust the ceramic base with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and brush the fabric shade gently, ensuring all electrical components are regularly inspected by a professional.
