René Lalique Opalescent Ondines Plate Or Dish

£895    $1,198    €1,048
This is a René Lalique Ondines opalescent plate or dish, dating from the early 20th century. Ondines are female water spirits such as naiads and oceanids and the term was apparently first used by Paracelsus in the fifteenth century. It is one of Lalique''s most famous designs.

The plate is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with a century of use.

The plate is round, measuring 27.5 cm (9 inches) in diameter. The plate is moulded in opalescent glass and is decorated with six Ondines moulded into the lower surface. The plate is 2 cm (0.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a tiny extraneous piece of glass on the upper outside rim caused when the late was extracted from the mould; it is not damaged. The bowl bears a ''R. LALIQUE FRANCE No. 3003'' maker''s mark.

It weighs in at 1 kg. (~ 2 lb. 3 oz.).
