Early 20th Century Estate Made Blacksmith Hanging Light

1900 - 1920
Description

This is a rather lovely Early 20th century estate made blacksmith hanging light. The design is gothic inspired with the lovely flower head details. The patina is very attractive also. Another nice feature to this light is the hanging stem has metal leaves running down it. High quality piece throughout. The main lights are the 4 arms that are wired and then there is the further 4 hanging points that within them have a form of holder which I had thought maybe for candles but hanging down would suggest not. Regardless a lovely light.

Height 83cm Diameter 70cm

Can be wired for UK, US and EU

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Blacksmith-made lighting from the early 20th century features hand-forged wrought iron components crafted using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts and Gothic Revival movements, these pieces display visible joinery, hand-poured iron details, and architectural motifs like fleur-de-lis and floral forms.

These fixtures were constructed primarily from wrought iron, shaped using heat, anvils, and hammers. Components were typically joined using iron rivets, wrapped straps, or collar joins rather than modern electric welds.

Authentic pieces feature slight asymmetrical variations from hand hammering, visible riveted construction, natural surface oxidisation, and layered patination. Modern reproductions often show uniform machine-stamped surfaces and seamless electric welds.

A wrought iron ceiling light serves as a focal point when suspended above a dining space, hallway, or kitchen island. It pairs well with natural stone, exposed timber, and neutral color palettes to balance its structural visual weight.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth or soft-bristled brush. To protect against moisture and rust, apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax periodically, and always hire a qualified electrician when rewiring historical lighting.
