Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver tea strainers became widespread in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries alongside the popularisation of imported loose-leaf tea across Europe. Designed to catch tea leaves as liquid was poured from the teapot, these implements quickly evolved into standard components of formal silver tea services.

Historically, tea strainers were crafted from solid sterling silver or high-grade silver plate using hand-piercing, casting, and soldering techniques. The bowl perforations were meticulously punched or cut out to allow liquid to pass efficiently while retaining the solid leaf debris.

Authentic British sterling silver tea strainers display official assay hallmarks, including a lion passant mark denoting silver purity, a makers mark, and a city mark. Genuine solid silver pieces also exhibit distinctive weight, smooth hand-finished edges, and subtle tarnishing within recessed areas.

A silver tea strainer can be styled on a dining room sideboard, inside a glazed display cabinet, or arranged on a silver tray alongside fine bone china. It serves as both a functional tabletop element during afternoon tea and a refined decorative accent on a kitchen dresser.

Clean sterling silver strainers by washing in warm water mixed with mild soap, using a soft cloth to clear tea residue from the perforations. Restore tarnish-free brilliance using a dedicated silver polishing cloth or gentle cream polish, drying thoroughly afterwards to prevent water spots.
