This Victorian walnut inlaid Davenport was made circa 1870.
It has the inset leather hide sloping writing surface, that lifts to reveal the fine fitted Maple interior.
The top surface with a beautiful finely inlaid panel and a superb cast gallery.
To the front are tapering columns with the gilt bronze collars and inlays, at the kneehole the panel has a large spray of fine inlay.
To the side is the panel door that opens to reveal the 4 graduated drawers that have the cast gilt bronze ormolu swing handles.
It is rare to find a Davenport desk with the gilt bronze mounts and collars, this puts this example into the higher bracket of quality than you would usually find on the market, add to this you have the finest box wood stringing.
Another pointer to this being a high-grade item, is that in general a Davenport with the side door that encloses the drawers were the most expensive pieces in the day. The reason for this, is that the time and cost of the cabinetmaker adding
...this extra feature was high. It is far easier and cheaper to make a desk like this with the drawers on the exterior.
Imagine the pleasure you will gain by owning this exceptional Victorian walnut inlaid Davenport, it can be used in many places around your home and will be admired by your family and friends
