Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A torba is a small, shallow storage bag woven by the Tekke tribe of Central Asia, traditionally hung inside nomadic yurts to store personal items or household utensils. The face of the bag features fine hand-knotted wool pile, often separated from the plain-weave back after its nomadic functional life to be appreciated as framed or hanging textile art.

Turkmen weavers used hand-spun sheep wool for both the foundation warp and weft as well as the knotted pile. Dyes were obtained from natural plant and mineral sources, such as madder root for deep red and burgundy shades, indigo for dark blues, and natural un-dyed wool for cream sections.

Authentic 19th-century Tekke pieces display an exceptionally fine knot count, velvety hand-spun wool, and asymmetric knotting depressed to create a structured back texture. The colour palette relies on natural madder reds and dark indigo, while motifs feature precise geometric lattice work, gul variations, and characteristic border designs.

A Turkmen torba face can be mounted and framed behind glass or suspended from a custom hanging bar on a focal wall. Its rich reddish-brown palette and geometric pattern provide visual texture when placed above a sideboard, in a hallway alcove, or alongside minimalist modern furniture.

Keep the textile away from direct sunlight and damp conditions to prevent dye fading and fibre decay. Clean lightly using a soft brush or low-suction vacuum without a rotary brush, and consult a professional textile conservator for deep cleaning or insect treatment.
