Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A triple reeded pewter plate is a late 17th-century metal dish featuring three concentric moulded ridges around its rim. Popular during the Stuart period in England, these plates served both utility and decorative purposes in domestic settings.

Historically, English pewter was an alloy primarily composed of tin combined with small quantities of lead, copper, or antimony to increase hardness. The metal was cast in brass moulds and then finished on a lathe to create precise rims and smoothed surfaces.

Authentic 17th-century pewter plates typically feature maker touchmarks, hallmark-like stamps, or ownership initials stamped along the rim or base. Additionally, genuine period pieces display distinct casting seams, lathe marks, and a natural patination with subtle surface oxidation consistent with age.

Antique pewter plates can be displayed on plate stands atop a wooden sideboard, mounted on a wall in a structured gallery arrangement, or integrated into a mantelpiece display. Their grey, matte metallic lustre contrasts well against modern neutral paint tones and rustic timber surfaces.

Antique pewter should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth and washed gently in warm soapy water if necessary. Abrasive polishes and harsh chemicals should be avoided, as retaining the historic oxidation and dark patina preserves the character and value of the metal.
