Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Insect jewellery gained popularity in the mid-to-late 19th century, driven by the Victorian fascination with natural history, botany, and entomology. Craftsmen recreated beetles, butterflies, and bees using precious metals and gemstones to reflect nature in personal adornment.

Victorian insect brooches were commonly crafted in yellow gold or silver-topped gold, featuring diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and seed pearls. Diamonds were often set in silver to enhance their brilliance, backed with gold to prevent tarnishing on clothing.

Authentic Victorian pieces often feature extended pin stems that project past the brooch edge, C-clasps without modern safety catches, hand-cut diamonds such as rose or old mine cuts, and closed-back or silver-on-gold settings.

Antique insect brooches can be worn on coat lapels, collared shirts, velvet jackets, or grouped together on fabric scarves. They are also displayed in lined velvet shadow boxes or jewellery frames when not being worn.

Clean gently with a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners or chemical chemicals that can damage delicate pearls or dissolve antique settings. Store flat in a fabric-lined box away from direct sunlight and moisture.
