FAQs

Italian wall sconces from the late 19th and early 20th centuries frequently incorporated Rococo and Baroque motifs. These pieces typically feature pierced scrollwork, acanthus leaf carvings, floral elements, and layered metal leaf gilding over hand-carved timber bases.

These wall lights were crafted using carved softwoods, such as pine or lindenwood, coated with a layer of fine plaster gesso. Thin sheets of gold or silver leaf were applied over the gesso, often aged or burnished, while iron or copper tubing formed the candle arms and light fitments.
