Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A breakfront bookcase features a central section that projects forward beyond the flanking side wings. Popularised in 18th-century Britain, these large-scale library cabinets typically combine upper glazed doors with lower cupboard storage.

Georgian cabinetry predominantly utilised dense mahogany timber, valued for its stability and rich grain. Construction features often include hand-cut dovetail joints, solid brass escutcheons, and hand-blown glass panes supported by wood glazing bars.

Authentic 18th and early 19th-century pieces display hand-planed backboards, period-correct brass hardware, secondary timber like oak or pine inside drawers, and subtle variations in hand-cut astragal glazing bars.

Balance the visual weight of a dark wood breakfront bookcase by pairing it with neutral wall tones and contemporary seating, while curating the interior shelves with a mix of bound volumes, ceramics, and minimalist decorative objects.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber drying or veneer movement. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice per year, buffing along the direction of the wood grain.
