The Georgian era, spanning the reigns of the four Kings George from 1714 to 1830, encompasses several design shifts from early classical simplicity to later ornate rococo revivals, characterised by hand-beaten or cast sterling silver.

These items were typically fashioned from solid sterling silver (925 standard) by skilled silversmiths, often taking earlier plain spoons and retrofitting them during the Victorian period with chased fruit motifs and scalloped edges.

Authentic pieces are identified through clear hallmarks stamped into the metal, which typically include the makers mark, standard mark (such as the lion passant for sterling), duty mark indicating the reigning monarch, and a date letter.

Antique silver can be incorporated into modern settings by displaying serving pieces within glass-fronted cabinets, mounting them in shadow boxes as wall art, or using them functionally on dining tables to create textural contrast.

Preservation involves storing silver in tarnish-resistant cloth bags in low-humidity environments, washing by hand with mild soap when necessary, and minimising chemical polish applications to protect the underlying metal and patina.
