Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the Netherlands between 1910 and 1930, the Amsterdam School movement is recognised by its expressive, organic forms, dramatic sculptural contours, and integration of architectural metalwork. Decorative objects from this period frequently feature hand-hammered surfaces, mixed metals, and geometric yet fluid silhouettes.

Candlesticks from this period were crafted using traditional metalworking techniques, combining hand-hammered sheet brass with hand-forged wrought iron. The central pricket, or steel spike, was designed to secure large wax candles, while decorative collars and dished wax pans were joined using riveted or pinned construction.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-tooling marks, subtle variations in the hammered finish, and period-appropriate joinery such as visible iron rivets. The design typically incorporates parabolic curves, architectural proportions, and structural contrast between dark iron and polished brass.

Large metal candlesticks work effectively as symmetrical accents on a dining room sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or expansive console table. Their strong architectural silhouette complements modern minimalist spaces, rustic oak surfaces, or dark moody interior schemes.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive liquid polishes that strip natural age patina or cause liquid to collect around iron joinery, which may lead to unwanted oxidisation.
