Art Deco tableware emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric lines, stylised floral or symmetrical motifs, and a fusion of modern industrial materials with traditional craftsmanship.

These items typically combined sterling silver mounts, pierced or cut using fine saws, with inset panels of clear or coloured glass, often featuring British hallmarking for verification of metal purity and origin.

Authenticity is usually confirmed by legible hallmarks stamped directly onto the silver rim, indicating the assay office (such as Birmingham), date letter, and makers mark, alongside period-appropriate wear and construction.

It can be utilised as a decorative tabletop display piece on a sideboard or coffee table, serving as a reflective tray for small objects or functioning in its original capacity during afternoon tea service.

Clean the silver components gently using a specialist micro-abrasive silver polish, avoiding harsh chemicals on the glass or near the hallmarks, and store in a dry environment to prevent tarnish and oxidation.
