Art Deco jewellery, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric precision, stylised representations of nature, and the extensive use of enamel alongside precious metals.

These pieces typically utilised sterling silver or base metals combined with vitreous enamel techniques, such as guilloche or plique-a-jour, to create translucent coloured effects.

Authenticity is determined by examining maker marks, hallmarks for silver purity, the hand-applied texture of the enamel, and traditional pin mechanisms characteristic of the period.

An antique brooch can be pinned to the lapel of a tailored blazer, fastened at the neckline of a blouse, or used to secure a scarf for a sophisticated touch.

Store enamel jewellery in a soft pouch away from direct sunlight, avoid harsh chemical dips or ultrasonic cleaners, and gently wipe the silver components with a microfibre cloth.
