Pair of René Lalique “Marguerites” Candlesticks

This very rare matched pair of “Marguerites” candlesticks was designed by René Lalique in 1922 and represents a quintessential example of early French Art Deco glass design. The model, also known as Marguerites (Daisies), is celebrated for its refined balance of geometric structure and stylized natural ornament—hallmarks of Lalique’s mature design language.

Each candlestick is executed in moulded art glass, combining areas of clear and frosted finish. The form features a tall, ribbed clear glass stem rising from a wide, flat circular base and supporting a broad, shallow circular top. The upper surface is richly decorated with radiating moulded daisy or starburst motifs in frosted glass, centered around a cylindrical candle cup. The deliberate contrast between the transparent stem and the satin-finished floral relief creates a striking visual interplay of light and texture.

Standing approximately 21 cm (8.25 inches) high, the candlesticks possess an elegant verticality while maintaining visual stability through their generous bases. Designs from the Marguerites series are among Lalique’s most sought-after decorative objects, prized for their sculptural clarity, decorative impact, and historical importance within the Art Deco movement.

The pair remains in very good vintage condition, with no noted damage, and displays the crisp moulding and surface quality expected of Lalique glass from this period. Matched pairs of this model are particularly scarce, enhancing both decorative appeal and collector value.
