Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Seal top spoons emerged during the sixteenth century and remained prominent throughout the seventeenth century in Britain and Western Europe. They are defined by a flat, disc-like terminal called a seal knop at the end of the handle, which was occasionally used to press wax seals on documents.

These spoons were predominantly hand-hammered from sterling silver or silver-gilt, with cast knops soldered onto the stem. Base metals such as pewter were also utilised for everyday household examples during the period.

Authentic period examples feature hallmarks located near the rim of the bowl or along the stem, characteristic hand-forged hammer marks, and a fig-shaped bowl profile that is wider towards the tip.

Historic silver flatware can be displayed mounted in custom fabric-lined shadow boxes, presented on a sideboard top inside a glass dome, or arranged alongside curio collections on open shelving.

Wash silver gently with warm water and mild soap, drying thoroughly with a soft cloth. Apply non-abrasive silver polish sparingly when necessary to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that strip natural oxidisation from detailed areas.
