Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Nineteenth-century footstools were common domestic accessories in Victorian drawing rooms, designed to provide comfort while sitting on parlour chairs or sofas, often reflecting the decorative tastes and craftsmanship of the period.

These pieces typically feature dense hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, joined using traditional mortise and tenon or dowel construction, and finished with hand-carved details and traditional upholstery techniques.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, looking for hand-cut joinery marks, checking for appropriate patination and oxidisation of the wood, and inspecting the inner webbing and stuffing of the upholstery.

They can be placed in front of a sofa or used as occasional seating in a living room, adding historic texture, warmth, and structural contrast to modern furniture schemes.

Maintain antique rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking, and apply microcrystalline wax sparingly to nourish the surface finish.
