Tea caddy spoons emerged during the mid-18th century as luxury items designed to measure loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, reflecting the high status and expense of tea at the time.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as casting, hammering, chasing, and hand-engraving, often featuring intricate botanical or geometric motifs.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the makers mark, assay office, standard mark, and date letter corresponding to the Georgian period.

It can be displayed within a glass-fronted cabinet, mounted in a shadow box frame, or curated atop a sideboard alongside other small historic metalware to add a touch of heritage and texture.

Care involves gentle cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver cleaner only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials and storing the piece in a tarnish-resistant environment.
