Provincial Scottish silver refers to items crafted outside the main assay offices of Edinburgh and Glasgow, often featuring unique maker marks and regional characteristics from towns such as St Andrews, Aberdeen, or Dundee.

Antique spoons from this era are typically fabricated from sterling silver, hammered, shaped by hand, and finished with hand-engraved initials or crests on the terminal.

Authenticity is determined by examining maker marks, town marks, weight, patina, and construction techniques consistent with the period of manufacture, alongside testing for sterling silver purity.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed in glass-fronted cabinets, used within traditional table settings, or framed as historical wall art to add texture and heritage to contemporary spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive silver cloth or specialist polish to preserve the underlying patina, avoiding harsh dips that can damage historic surfaces.
