An Art Deco table lamp dating from 1930, designed in an industrial yet glamorous style for functional workspace illumination. The construction combines brass metalwork with a clear glass shade, presenting a polished metallic finish alongside transparent glass. Visible details include a shell-shaped base with radiating ridges, a flexible gooseneck arm formed of close coils, an integral base-mounted toggle switch, and a flared shade with vertical flutes. The dimensions measure 54 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Suitable for placement on a home office desk, study writing table, or library reading surface, this lighting piece directs downward task illumination for work or reading activities. The compact footprint fits neatly beside paperwork and stationery on standard desk surfaces. Electrical operation connects through the included cable and standard bulb holder, providing a direct light source suited to focused tasks in a domestic interior.

Art Deco desk lamps, popular during the 1920s and 1930s, incorporate geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and decorative motifs such as stylized shells or fans. They balanced mechanical functionality, like flexible gooseneck arms, with refined metalwork and glass shades.

These lamps were primarily constructed using solid brass or copper for the base and flexible tubing, with weighted iron inner bases for stability. Shades were commonly crafted from moulded, ribbed, or etched glass, as well as spun metal.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast bases, period-appropriate switches such as push-button or small toggle switches, and natural surface patination on metal components. Original wiring channels and aged patina near screws or joints also indicate age.

Place the lamp on a modern dark wood or leather-topped desk to create a contrast between contemporary textures and metallic finishes. It also serves as functional accent lighting on a hallway sideboard, bedside table, or within a quiet reading corner.

Clean brass components with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust without stripping established patina. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, wash glass shades separately in lukewarm soapy water, and ensure electrical wiring is checked by a certified electrician.
