An albert chain is a type of watch chain designed to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat or jacket, popularised by Prince Albert during the 19th century.

Traditional watch chains were crafted from sterling silver, rolled gold, solid gold, and base metal alloys, often featuring hallmarks indicating the assay office and year of manufacture.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining silver hallmarks stamped onto individual links, the T-bar, and the swivel clasp, alongside assessing natural patination and wear patterns.

These chains can be repurposed as contemporary necklaces, bracelets, or secured through belt loops and waistcoat pockets for a classic heritage aesthetic.

Silver chains should be stored in anti-tarnish pouches and cleaned gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage intricate engravings and hallmarks.
