FAQs

Anglo-Indian silver refers to items crafted in the Indian subcontinent and Ceylon during the British colonial era, typically combining traditional local motifs with European forms and functional typologies.

These pieces were predominantly hammered from solid silver using high-purity metal, featuring intricate hand-chased and repousse decoration executed by skilled local artisans.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic hand-hammered marks, natural oxidation in the recesses, local artisan punch marks or pseudo-hallmarks, and deeply detailed traditional iconography specific to the region of origin.

This type of decorative object can be displayed flat on a coffee table or sideboard top to hold small accessories, or mounted vertically on a wall as a textured focal point.

Preservation requires minimal intervention using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive dips that can strip the authentic dark patina from recessed areas.
